Introduction
Unlike previous regions, the Land of the Morning Light does not have traditional grind spots, instead, there are 9 solo bosses and 6 party bosses you can challenge and defeat. This system is called “Black Shrine“, and there is a kill-time leaderboard for the fastest time record.
This guide focuses on the party bosses only and information about the solo bosses is available in our Black Shrine (Solo) Guide
How to Enter/Exit Black Shrine
Unlike solo Black Shrine, each party boss is unlocked automatically and can be challenged immediately.
The Black Shrine menu can be accessed by going to the ESC Menu > Adventure (F5) > Black Shrine.
Once you have opened the menu, click the “Hwanghae (Party)” tab at the top to switch.
Create your party of 5 members then the party leader can select a boss from the list on the left side and choose the difficulty. Press the “Party Blitz” button from the Black Shrine menu to begin the fight for your party.
If you fail the boss battle by using all your team lives, you will automatically exit the Black Shrine. You can also leave early by pressing ESC, bringing up a pop-up box asking if you want to leave the fight.
Difficulty Levels and Weekly Limit
The party boss fights are designed with 2 difficulty options for each boss. Unlike the solo bosses, your own gear is used during the battle. Stats gained from the Light Orbs do not affect the party bosses.
Normal Difficulty |
Hard Difficulty |
---|---|
Requires 300 AP | Requires 330 AP |
You can only obtain rewards for defeating up to 5 party bosses per week. This is for the entire family and resets every Sunday at 00:00 UTC.
- The weekly boss limit is separate for solo and party bosses
- The weekly boss limit is only reduced if you successfully defeat the boss
The number of Weekly bosses you have left can be found in the Black Shrine UI.
Boss Aura System
The boss aura system is much simpler than the system for the solo bosses. Light Orbs are not used for the party bosses and your own character’s gear is used instead.
Once your party leader starts the boss fight through the UI, each party member can choose between the Sun, Moon, and Earth aura.
Each aura gives your party a different advantage for the boss battle. There is also an extra bonus if all party members have the same aura selected.
- For example, if all members select the earth aura then 5 resurrection attempts are added
Aura | Advantage |
---|---|
Sun Aura |
Increases crowd-control effect duration Blue-clad Youth only: reduces max HP instead |
Moon Aura |
Increases HP recovery by +75 Blue-clad Youth only: increases the timer for mechanics instead |
Earth Aura |
Increases revives by +1 Blue-clad Youth only: increases re-attempts by +1 instead |

Preparing for Black Shrine
All of the boss fights are quite short (whether you defeat the boss or die), and some buff do not persist through death so popping buffs can feel like a bit of a waste but may be needed if you are attempting hard mode. Some bosses (such as Dark Bonghwang) have DPS checks so you may need to pop expensive buffs like Perfume of Courage.
If you do decide to use buffs, make sure you pop the buffs before entering the boss fight, since you cannot use consumables once inside.
Below is a quick example checklist of buffs you may want to use:
Checklist before you start | |
---|---|
PVE Artifacts and Lightstones | Make sure you swap to PVE Artifacts and Lighstones if you frequently change them for PVP. |
PVE Crystal Preset | Make sure you swap to your PVE Cyrstal Preset if you frequently change your crystals for PVP. If you are unsure what crystals to use for PVE, check out our example builds in the Crystal Preset Guide |
PVE Skill Addons | Make sure you swap to your PVE Skill Addons if you frequently change your addons for PVP. |
Church Buffs |
Collect the AP church buffs from the priest:
|
Vell’s Heart | Make sure your alchemy stone is turned on and recharged. |
Exquisite Cron Meal |
Buy or make the Exquisite Cron Meal.
|
Perfume of Courage |
Perfumes are optional but may help you with DPS checks or hard mode bosses |
Giant’s/Frenzy Draught | Use either Giant’s Draught, or Frenzy Draught if you feel you are lacking DP since it has a higher HP regen. |
Villa Buffs | Collect the [Body Enhancement] Villa buffs from your tent. |
Boss Fight Rules and Mechanics
After entering the boss room, you will not be able to use potions or other consumables, so you cannot heal if you take damage.
Instead, there are green orbs around the edge of the boss room, and if you hit these green orbs with a skill, you can recover HP.
The locations of the orbs seem to always be the same, so you can memorize exactly where they are.
At the beginning of the fight, the orb will start small, and if you don’t hit it, the size of the orb will grow larger. The larger the orb becomes, the more HP it will recover.
In the image below, you can see the difference between the smaller (left) and larger (right) orb.
Jigwi
Common Mechanics:
- When the message appears: “Jigwi starts preparing fire energy for recovery”, 4 yellow circles with a square mark inside will spawn around Jigwi, a player must step inside each circle as quickly as possible to stop Jigwi from healing. If 2 players stand inside the same circle, or if a player clears more than one circle, they will instantly die, so make sure only one player is inside each circle and that 4 different players clear one circle each.
- Every 60 seconds, “Flame of Resentment” objects appear on the edge of the map. The flame will periodically summon explosive fireballs which do a lot of damage, so all party members should split up around the edge of the map and try to destroy the flames quickly when they spawn. The flames will always appear right after the meteor shower attack as well.
Phase 1:
- At the start of both phase 1 and 2, there will be 4 flaming objects that appear in the center of the arena. If these flaming objects are not destroyed in a certain amount of time, Jigwi will perform a one-shot ability that will wipe your team, so you must destroy the 4 objects quickly. You can use back attacks on the objects to kill them easier.
- When the message appears “I will burn all that deny’s me!”, Jigwi will start to charge an attack (which is a similar animation to the Wizard class Hellfire skill). After charging the skill, Jigwi and his clones will cast a one-shot ability that covers most of the arena. To avoid this attack, carefully watch the direction Jigwi is facing during the charge, and all players should stand directly behind Jigwi to dodge.
- When the message appears “Does it burn? It is nothing compared to my broken heart!”, a meteor shower will fall across the entire arena, stand at the edge of the map to avoid this attack.
- When the message appears “Jigwi wishes to burn everything that breathes”, Jigwi will teleport repeatedly and drop a cone-shaped attack (Hellfire attack) 5 times.
Phase 2:
- At the start of Phase 2, the 4 flaming objects appear in the center of the arena and destroy the 4 objects quickly. You can use back attacks on the objects to kill them easier.
- When the message appears “I want to be happy… I want to be happy… I want to be happy!!”, Jigwi will teleport to the center and cast a shield around himself. During this time, 8 pillars of fire appear around the map and will summon orbs that slowly move towards Jigwi. These pillars will stun the player if you stand in them, and you must destroy all the orbs before they reach Jigwi. If you are successful, Jigwi will be knocked down for a short period of time, allowing you to easily deal lots of damage. You can use back attacks on the orbs to kill them more easily.
- When Jigwi reaches around 10%, orbs of fire spawn again and Jigwi repeats other mechanics during this time. The orbs this time are invincible and have a pillar of fire on top of them so just be careful not to stand in them. During this mechanic, Jigwi will become tired periodically and get knocked down, allowing you to deal damage easily and finish the battle.
Blue-clad Youth
General Info:
- Blue-clad Youth is not a DPS boss and instead has a total of 6 “trials”. You must successfully complete each trial to defeat the boss. There are 3 trials in phase 1 and 3 in phase 2 but it is random which ones you can get. If you complete all the trials then boxes will appear at the end which you just destroy to finish the boss.
- Since the boss is only mechanics with no DPS, the party auras have a different advantage. I recommend taking x5 Earth for learning the trials because this will increase the number of retrails/fails you can make.
- The arena is quite dark so it is recommended to use your fairy light or an atanis firefly. It is also quite difficult to see your party members so some players recommend dying your costumes if possible to make each person easier to recognise.
Trial #1: Sun and Moon
- The message appears “Balance of the sun and moon begins to collapse”
- Sun and Moon spheres appear on the left and right, with a green circle and a blue orb in the center.
- The blue orb will start to move towards one of the spheres.
- When you hit the sun or moon sphere, the blue orb will move in the direction of the sphere you hit.
- For example, if the orb moves towards the moon sphere, you can hit the sun sphere to move it back towards the center.
- To complete this mechanic, you must keep the blue orb on top of the green circle for a certain amount of time.
Trial #2: Right from Wrong – Gumiho
- The message appears “Can you discern the right from the wrong?”
- The nine-tailed Gumiho foxes will appear everywhere and do a breath attack.
- There will be fake Gumihos that do not deal damage with their breath attack.
- Kill the fake Gumihos to complete this mechanic
Trial #3: Maze
- The message appears “All must gather to take the Youth’s trail. Will you chase reason, as greed whispers in your ear?”
- For this mechanic all players should gather in the green circle in the center to start. A maze of blue flames will appear and 5 boxes will spawn with a yellow beam. Each player must stand on top of a box.
- You must make your way through the maze without touching the walls indicated by the flames. You have to hold W only to move and not use any movement abilities. Make sure to take the correct and widest/clearest path. For the maze you cannot take shortcuts by going diagonally through the gap in the flames even if it looks like you can.
- There are 8 possible patterns for the maze which you can learn (if you want to) using this helpful guide from KR Inven.
Trial #4: Blue Orbs
- The message appears “Are you prepared to embrace your fate?”
- For this mechanic, 10 blue spheres will appear all around the arena in groups of 2. Each player takes 2 spheres next to eachother. 2 small blue orbs will start to fly towards the spheres.
- When the orb enters the sphere you must attack the orb with the correct timing. You can’t be too early or too late with the timing. You only need to hit the orb to destroy it. You can use a basic attack or any skill to destory the orb. Don’t use AOE skills if the orbs are not perfectly moving together because you will hit both and one might be slightly out of time. Don’t use skills that leave a damage pool on the ground (such as Witch’s Toxic Flood or Ranger’s Regeneration skill)
- You have 5 attempts to destory the orb at the correct timing.
- If someone fails the timing then the orb will explode with a red effect and the person who failed will get a message saying “Fail! Foolish one”.
Trial #5: Mirror
- The message appears “The truth begins to hide beneath the surface”
- Clones of the boss will appear on one side of the arena, and blue circles will appear on the ground on the other side of the arena.
- Kill all of the clones until 5 clones are remaining with a yellow circle underneath them.
- On the other side of the arena, each player must then stand on top of a blue circle in the position of the clones to match the other side exactly as if it is a mirror reflection.
- All 5 players must wait on the correct circle until the message appears to complete the mechanic.
Trial #6: Blue Circles
- The message appears “In solitude, the answer awaits within”
- Blue circles randomly appear all over the arena.
- When the correct number of players stand inside a blue circle, it will turn yellow and can be destroyed by hitting the yellow orb inside.
- All of the circles must be destroyed within a certain time limit.
- To make this mechanic faster/easier, you can first check circles as a group of 4 and destroy the circles that require 4 people, while at the same time, the solo person goes and destroys circles that require 1 person. Then you swap into groups of 2 and 3 and repeat. Finally, go as a group of 5 to destroy circles that require all 5 players.
Bulgasal
Common Mechanics:
- Two objects called “Iron Aura” will spawn on both sides of Bulgasal. Every 10 seconds, the aura grows in size and increases by 1 level. If either of the auras reaches level 4 at any point during the battle, it will trigger a one-shot ability that will kill the entire party. Before starting the fight, assign 2 players to control the Iron auras. These 2 players need to attack the objects frequently to stop them from reaching level 4. Each time the object is attacked it will reduce by 1 level and go smaller.
- As well as keeping the Iron Auras under control, make sure not to bring Bulgasal too close to the Iron Aura, or a one-shot ability can also be triggered.
Phase 1:
- When Bulgasal reaches 60% HP, the message appears “Face the wrath of my strike”. Bulgasal will start to charge an attack and during this time spikey orbs appear around him and start moving towards him. If a certain number of orbs reach Bulgasal, he will finish his attack and one-shot your party. Destroy the orbs to stop them from reaching the boss. If you are successful, the message “Bugasla’s stance crumbles” will appear and he will be stunned for a short amount of time allowing you to deal easy damage.
- When Bulgasal reaches 25% HP, the message appears “Even if this body melts away, I will still protect this land”. Bulgasal will teleport and start charging an attack. After finishing the charge, a large red circle will appear on the floor and Bulgasal will deal a large AOE attack. You must dodge this attack using an I-frame ability or moving far out of range.
Phase 2:
- Once Bulgasal reaches 70% HP in phase 2, the message appears “You cannot burn away my very soul!”. He will burrow underground and move to the player who currently has aggro. Bulgasal will then come back up and attack at this location with a one-shot ability. This attack is repeated 4 or 5 times. Players should spread out and watch for the red circle indicator on the ground, then use an I-frame ability to dodge the attack.
- At 50% and 15% HP, Bulgasal will teleport onto the wooden frame in the arena and start charging an attack. The message appears “Princess…! I, Biwon, vow to protect you with my life!”. During the charge, 5 flame objects will spawn at the tunnels and your party must destroy all of them in a set amount of time. If the party fails this mechanic, a one-shot ability will be triggered. If the party is successful and destroys all of the flames, Bulgasal will do a smaller attack which deals around 80% of your HP. Bulgasal will also be stunned, allowing you to attack him freely. Use your buffs while waiting for the smaller attack, and then back attack when he is stunned.
Uturi
Common Mechanics:
- At the start of the fight, 5 sacks appear around the edges of the arena. These sacks can be destroyed through certain mechanics. The sacks will spawn monsters and it is important to keep the number of monsters under control. If there are too many monsters alive at any point during the battle, a message will appear “Uturi’s forces are swarming the Martial God Tournament” and an AOE one-shot ability will be triggered shortly after.
- When the message appears “All of you, after them!”, Uturi will target a random person in the party. The selected player will be chased by a green marker on the floor and if they stand on it for too long they will be stunned. If a player is selected, they should keep moving to avoid the marker and just focus on the additional monsters that spawn from the sacks.
Phase 1 and 2:
- The first mechanic begins when the message appears “If you underestimate beans, you’ll regret it dearly”. Uturi will then start to pull back his slingshot for an attack. You should move towards the sacks located around the arena so that Uturi’s slingshot attack hits and destroys the sack. To dodge the attack, watch the green effect that appears as Uturi is charging the slingshot. The effect will then stop and immediately after he will launch his slingshot.
- When the message appears “The sack bursts open, scattering red beans and beans everywhere”, green circles will appear on the ground. Party members must stand on each of the green circles until they disappear. If all the circles are not cleared fast enough, Uturi will heal a large amount of HP. If your party is successful, he will be stunned for a short period and receive a DP debuff, allowing you to deal free damage.
- When the message appears “Those who underestimate me will all meet their doom”, all party members will be stunned for a short period of time and a green marker will appear to target one player. Once the stun ends, all players must stand on top of the targetted player so that the damage from the attack is shared.
Dark Bonghwang
General Info:
- The map for this boss is quite unique, with the main altar in the middle. There is then water around the altar and smaller altars/platforms around the edge. In the water there are whirlpools that you can swim on top of to be launched into the air. These are used for certain mechanics or to get back onto the main altar. You can also climb up the corners of the altar. Swimming (shark/fish) costumes are VERY helpful for this boss.
- There must always be at least 1 person on the main altar at all times otherwise all players will be one-shot.
- During the fight, a red burn debuff which deals damage over time can appear on your buff bar. The buff will have 1 stack and the stack increases by 1 every time you are hit by the boss. The higher the stack the more HP it will drain. You must go into the water around the altar to remove this debuff.
- When the message appears “The Dark Bonghwang begins to ready its wings for flight”, the boss flies up into the air. Avoid the whirlwind and red attack zones on the ground until the boss lands again. You can’t do any damage at this time so just avoid the attacks and wait.
Phase 1:
- At the start of phase 1 you can back attack freely until the boss flies up into the air
- When the message appears “The burning brazier emanates a powerful aura of Dark Bonghwang” the red flame on one of the red braziers on the edge of the altar will become larger and a red beam effect will appear on top of the brazier. Stand at this brazier and back attack the Dark Bonghwang when it appears in front of the brazier. If you deal enough damage to the boss, a message will appear saying “The dawn grows deeper!” and the boss will be stunned for a short period of time allowing you to deal more free damage. If you fail this mechanic then the boss will go into the air and fly again without being stunned.
- When the message appears “The Dark Bonghwang’s energy engulfs Bonghwang’s Nest”, all of the altar is set on fire. You can jump into the water by jumping off the altar to avoid the attack.
- When the message appears “Your foolishness… your greed.. I will burn it all!”. You must go into the water around the altar and swim onto the whirlpool to launch onto the altar. You will get a buff and must land on top of the Dark Bonghwang by pressing LMB. A message will appear each time this is done and you must launch onto the boss 7 or 8 times in total (2 per person). When the message appears “Dragon King… Is this what you choose?” followed by “Arrrgh…!”, the mechanic is complete and the boss will be stunned.
Phase 2:
- At the start of phase 2, the message appears “The gold lit Water Sphere radiates the intense energy of the Sea Palace”. Water bubbles will appear in the air and you must climb onto the top platforms then swim into the whirlpools to launch into the air. Whilst in the air, go through the shining bubbles with a yellow border to pop them. All of the shining bubbles must be popped to complete the mechanic and stun the boss. You can land on top of a regular bubble to bounce and stay in the air for longer.
- When the message appears “The sun’s scorching heat cascades down”, the debuff will accumulate on a player and they must go into the whirlpool in the water to cleanse the debuff.
- When the message appears “The energy of Bonghwang converges from afar, forging its very essence”, eggs will spawn on the platform around the arena. These eggs must be destroyed. Send 1 or 2 players only to deal with the eggs.
- Some mechanics from phase 1 can also appear in phase 2. The mechanics are also randomly repeated throughout the fight until the boss is defeated.
Deposed Crown Prince
Common Mechanics:
- During the fight, the Crown Prince’s basic attack inflicts a 5 second debuff that reduces your healing and forward guard gauge. The basic attack gets stronger in phase 3, increasing the AOE and number of hits dealt.
- A white circle will randomly appear throughout the fight and if you stand on the circle you will go up into the air and cannot move. If a player gets stuck in the air, you can free them by standing underneath on the white circle.
- When the boss moves outside of the arena, he will teleport randomly 3 times then the message appears “Traveler.. you disappoint me”. The Deposed Crown Prince will then jump into the air and attack 3 times at a random player. You must dodge carefully at the right time to avoid the hit.
- When the message appears “A chilling light settles upon Go Young’s blade”, he will start charging with a purple effect around him and then attacks in front of him with an AOE attack. Stand behind Crown Prince to avoid the attack. If he is hit at any time during the charging effect, he will deal a more powerful AOE attack in all directions, so do not hit the boss during this time, or use an i-frame to dodge.
- When the message appears “I will place everyone in this world under my feet”, Crown Prince will attack in a cone shape, then a larger attack straight afterwards. Use your i-frame to dodge the attack.
Phase 1:
- When the boss reaches 80% HP, the message appears “Bow your head and die where you stand” The boss will then telport to the center of the arena and a white moon will appear out of the ground at his location. 5 clones of the boss will then spawn around the arena and each will have a different shaped moon. You must defeat the clones in the correct order based on the moon shape above them. (Correct order: Right Crescent Moon, Right Half Moon, Full Moon, Left Half Moon, Left Crescent Moon). After defeating the clones in the correct order, the boss will be stunned for a short period of time and if you deal enough hits to the boss he will also be knocked down. The clones will do the purple charging attack “a chilling light” facing towards the edge of the arena so stand in the inside to avoid the attack.
- When the boss reaches 50% HP, the message appears “Now its time to end this”. 5 white lightning strike attacks will come out from the boss location and each attack will rotate clockwise.
- When the boss reaches 30% HP, the message appears “How long have I hidden myself?” The boss will teleport into the center of the arena and there will be 3 AOE attacks. The first attack can be dodged by staying at the edge of the arena, then move inside to dodge the 2nd attack, then back out again along the edge to dodge the 3rd and final attack (out, in, out).
Phase 2:
- At the start of phase 2, the message appears “Do you challenge me with such feeble strength?!” The boss then teleports to the center and an attack with red rings comes towards the boss, starting at the edge of the arena. You can dodge this attack using your i-frames.
- When the boss reaches 80% HP, the message appears “Now its time to end this” and the white lightning attack from phase 1 is repeated.
- When the boss reaches 60% HP, the message appears “The Deposed Crown Prince has fully harnessed the power of the Creation God and the Dark Bonghwang”. The boss will teleport up into the air and walk towards the full moon. He will then attack the full moon and split it in half. The arena will be covered with half of the area in yellow and the other half in purple. There are 2 safe areas for this attack on each side and it is where the half-moon is located. After the attack, the half moons (called “Divided Moon”) will start moving towards each other and must be destroyed before they reach the boss. Immediately after the mechanic, the boss will do the white lightning attack pattern again. If you fail this mechanic, red moons will appear all around the edge of the arena and you must spam your i-frames to dodge the incoming attacks.
- When the boss reaches 50% HP, the message appears “The dead king was the son of a lowly maid”. The boss will disappear and red meteors will drop from the sky. When the meteor lands, a red ring will explode from the location and the white lightning attacks will be moving clockwise. Use your i-frames to dodge these attacks and move clockwise to avoid the lightning.
- When the boss reaches 30% HP, the message appears “How long have I hidden myself?” and the same “out, in, out” mechanic from phase 1 is repeated. The only difference is that the attack will be repeated 3 – 5 times. The attack pattern ends when the boss lowers his sword.
- When the boss reaches 10% HP, the message appears “Do you challenge me with such feeble strength?!” and the red ring attack is repeated from the start of phase 2.
Phase 3 (Hard mode only):
- When the boss reaches 80% HP, the message appears “How long have I hidden myself?” and the same “out, in, out” mechanic is repeated 3 – 5 times. The attack pattern ends when the boss lowers his sword.
- When the boss reaches 50% HP, the boss jumps into the air and attacks up to 7 times by targetting a player with a red circle on the ground to show the location. A white circle will then appear as well after each attack. Dodge both the red and white circles by moving together as a group.
- When the boss reaches 40% HP, the white lightning attack from phase 1 is repeated but now have a wider AOE.
- When the boss reaches 10% HP, the message appears “How long have I hidden myself?” and the same “out, in, out” mechanic is repeated 3 – 5 times. The attack pattern ends when the boss lowers his sword.
- When the boss reaches 5% HP, the boss jumps into the air and attacks when landing. Dodge the red and white circles to avoid his attacks. The boss will be stunned every 6 attacks and this pattern is repeated until the boss is defeated or the 30 minute timer for the boss runs out. It is recommended to save your buffs until right after the 10% HP mechanic and then burst the boss as quickly as possible to try and avoid the 5% mechanic.

Guild Leaderboard Rewards
In addition to the boss loot mentioned above, if all 5 party members are from the same guild and successfully defeat a boss, the party’s kill time is recorded in a leaderboard against other guilds. At the end of the week, all guild members receive additional boss loot rewards based on the guild’s rank in the leaderboard.
The boss weekly limit is not consumed if you challenge the same boss and the same difficulty, so you can challenge yourself to improve your kill time freely, and the guild ranking leaderboard will update with your best kill time.
The leaderboard updates every day at daily reset (00:00 UTC) and you can view it by selecting the “Guild Rankings” button. You can also view your own clear times separately under “Boss Blitz History”
Each week on Sunday at 00:00 UTC the leaderboard is finalized and rewards are sent to your entire guild on Sunday around 00:10 UTC.
Rewards are given to all guild members in your guild However, there are different tiers for the rewards, and the reward you obtain is based on your kill speed and ranking.
- You must claim your reward box from the “Boss Blitz Reward” button before the following Sunday at 00:00, otherwise, the reward will be forfeited.
